Pedestrian
Safety
Some time during
the day we are all pedestrians. When we walk on the sidewalk, cross a street,
get in and out of a car or bus.
Every year thousands of
pedestrians are victims of traffic crashes.
By using common sense and following these guidelines you
can prevent being the next victim.
Always
cross a street at the corner
Corners and crosswalks
are the safest place to cross the street. For
your safety and of others, always cross at the corner, even if it means walking
a few more steps.
ü
Stop at the curb
ü
Look to
your left, then to your right and then to your left again
ü
Now,
cross, but keep on looking
Obey
traffic signals
It is important to obey
traffic signals and to know what they mean.
DON’T WALK
IF YOU ARE ON THE
SIDEWALK, DO NO START CROSSING. IF
YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED, FINISH PROMPTLY.
WALK
YOU MAY WALK WHILE
STILL PAYING ATTENTION TO TURNING CARS.
DO NOT TAKE
RISKS. WHEN CROSSING A STREET,
WALKING ON A SIDEWALK OR GETTING IN OR OUT OF A BUS OR CAR, ALWAYS REMAIN
ALERT. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR
SURROUNDINGS. ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE WHICH IS THE SAFEST MOMENT TO CROSS A STREET.
PROVIDED
BY THE FANWOOD POLICE DEPT. TRAFFIC SAFETY BUREAU AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY
TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION.
