  • Ride on the right-hand side of the street in the same direction as the flow of automobile traffic.

  • When riding with others, ride single file.

  • Stop at all stop signs and look left, right, and left again for traffic.

  • Walk your bike across busy roads and intersections

  • Use hand signals to show others that you are stopping or making a turn.

Tips for safe bicycle riding, ages 5-10

  • Always wear a bicycle safety helmet!  Have an adult help adjust the straps so the helmet is not loose on your head.

  • For good balance, check to make sure you can touch both feet to the ground when you sit on your bicycle seat.  If the seat is too high, ask an adult to lower it for you.

  • Tell an adult if anything is broken or wrong with your bike.

  • Watch out for people walking and cars backing out of driveways when riding your bike on a sidewalk.

  • "One seat, one rider!" Riding an extra person on your bicycle is Dangerous.

  • Wear brightly colored clothes so that others can see you better.

  • Keep both hands on the handlebars and carry packages in a basket, carrier, or backpack.

  • Avoid riding you bicycle at night or in bad weather
