Gang Awareness Information Bulletin

Due to escalating activity in Union County, the following information is provided to inform you of various signs of gang involvement.  Though the Borough of Fanwood has not experienced gang activity we should all be aware of its existence.

What are the signs of gang involvement?

• Hanging out with a new group of friends

• Frequently bruised or injured

• Using unusual hand signs

• Carrying guns knives or other weapons

• Showing a change in Personality or behavior

• Writing strange symbols (graffiti) on notebooks and folders

• Withdrawing from family members or friends

• Having trouble at school with grades or discipline

• Obtaining money and valuables without your knowledge

• Wearing tattoos, jewelry, hair styles, or clothing that identify a particular gang

• Abusing alcohol or other drugs

If you suspect that your child is involved in a gang, contact the Fanwood Police Department immediately.  Early intervention is important.
